During his tenure as Coordinator of the Stress Unit, Gary received numerous awards and commendations to include the Manual Carballo Award (awarded by then Governor Michael Dukakis for Exemplary Service, the Department of Corrections Pride and Performance Award, and the Massachusetts Senate Public Servant Award (nominated by the Massachusetts Corrections Officers Federated Union).

Shortly after his retirement from Corrections in 1998, Gary and his wife Aida (a 30-year dedicated Public Servant/Deputy Sheriff) developed RESPOND – The Law Enforcement and Family Member Assistance Program. Over the past 15 years, Gary has traveled around the country providing training and services to Correctional organizations to better assist his brother and sisters and their family members in the Corrections profession.
